My eyes opened suddenly. I was fully awake, staring at the white side table and the book I had been reading the night before. I looked at the clock; dead on nine. I sat up, looked to my left out the window. The sun was fighting against the blinds, finding a few cracks here and there. I got out of bed, picked up my book and went to sit on the balcony.
I opened up to the page I had stopped at and settled in to read. Just as I got comfy I looked up and out to sea. It was a beautiful Boxing Day morning. A hot Christmas wasn’t something that I was used to, but I knew I could get used to it.
My eyes found the horizon and I stared, wondering why I had awoken so suddenly. I could feel my mind searching for an answer that was not there, but my instincts told me that it was to be found out there in the distance, where the water and sky touched…
